2013 Federal Order on Internet Captioned Telephone Service (IPCTS)

Introduction

Sprint has worked with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ensure the integrity of the Captioned Telephone Service is not compromised and that it remains a service available to individuals who need it. As a result, there are some new regulations which may affect you. Per the FCC rulings, all captioned telephone providers are required register each user of our Internet-based CapTel Services.


Sprint WebCapTel Users

When you register to use Sprint WebCapTel you will be asked to provide some personal information.  This is to ensure integrity of the service and for the FCC to 

Register
This registration process will require that you provide your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your social security number. 

Certify
With Sprint WebCapTel, you will need to Self-Certify yourself based on the requirements set forth by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

In order to register to use the WebCapTel service, you must read and agree to the following terms & conditions:

  • I have a hearing loss that necessitates use of captioned telephone service.
  • I understand that the captioning on captioned telephone service is provided by a live communications assistant who listens to the other party on the line and provides the text on the captioned phone.
  • I understand that the cost of captioning each Internet protocol captioned telephone call is funded through a federal program.
  • I will not permit, to the best of my ability, persons who have not registered to use Internet protocol captioned telephone service to make captioned telephone calls on my registered IP captioned telephone service or device. 

Once you have agreed to the terms &conditions and completed the registration, you will be able to begin making calls with Sprint WebCapTel.

Sprint CapTel Phone Users

Customers with IP-based CapTel phones (CapTel 840i, CapTel 880i, and CapTel 2400i) must self-certify and register when they first set up their phone.  

Register
Per FCC requirements, you must register your new CapTel before the captions feature can be activated. Registration is quick & easy! Choose a method below: 

  1. Register Online
  2. Register by Phone: Call toll free registration hotline at: 1-888-269-7477
  3. Register by Fax, Email, or U.S. Mail: Complete the form at the bottom of this page and return

Certify

  • The certification process to use Internet-based CapTel phones is done on the phone when you first set it up. You will be asked to agree the following terms & conditions on the CapTel screen. Simply press YES on the phone after each question.
  • I have a hearing loss that necessitates use of captioned telephone service.
  • I understand that the captioning on captioned telephone service is provided by a live communications assistant who listens to the other party on the line and provides the text on the captioned phone.
  • I understand that the cost of captioning each Internet protocol captioned telephone call is funded through a federal program.
  • I will not permit, to the best of my ability, persons who have not registered to use Internet protocol captioned telephone service to make captioned telephone calls on my registered IP captioned telephone service or device. 

Once you have agreed to the terms &conditions and completed the registration, captions will be activated on your phone and you can begin making and receiving phone calls!
