Sprint Raises Awareness for Communications Solutions Targeting People with Hearing Loss

Overland Park, Kan., March 7, 2014 – Sprint (NYSE: S) recently presented a program at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Furman University to raise awareness for communication solutions for people with hearing loss.

The first OLLI course presentation by Sprint was on March 7th, 2014 at Furman in Greenville, South Carolina from 10am-3pm.  This course - Hear! Hear! - covers a variety of topics related to hearing loss and describes the newer resources available to benefit individuals with hearing loss so they can lead independent lives and enjoy life more by reducing the stress associated with hearing loss.  Topics covered include 1) types of hearing loss, 2) features of hearing aids and cochlear implants, telecommunications equipment, 3) smartphone applications, 4) public accommodations, including television and movie captions.

Sprint provides captioned telephone service for people with hearing loss called CapTel. This service allows those using a special CapTel phone to both hear amplified sound and view text captions of their phone conversations. The captions that appear on the phone allow people who have difficulty hearing to continue enjoying telephone access regardless of their hearing ability.
